Keep Your Toothbrush Clean

Jul 23, 12 Keep Your Toothbrush Clean

There are certain habits or activities that most people should be accustomed to doing on a daily basis, one of which is brushing your teeth. It is important to brush your teeth at least twice a day and to do so properly you want to make sure your toothbrush is clean before you put it in your mouth. The CDC, Center for Disease Control, has gone on record saying that “even after being visibly clean, toothbrushes can remain contaminated with potentially pathogenic organisms.” Since you use your toothbrush often it is important to know how to keep it clean.

Here are a few ways to help you keep your toothbrush as germ-free as possible:

  1. Keeping your toothbrush in a cabinet or using a toothbrush protector actually increases bacteria.
  2. Keeping multiple brushes in one cup is bad – brushes rub against each other and spread bacteria.
  3. Wash your hands first! This may seem like common sense, but many people first reach for their toothbrush.
  4. Wash your toothbrush before and after every use. This means holding it under running water and rubbing your thumb over it with force.
  5. Occasionally place your toothbrush in the dishwasher for a deep clean. Use ordinary dishwasher soap.
  6. Replace every three to four months.
  7. Always use toothpaste!

Here are some helpful tips that your top dentist recommends to keep your toothbrush clean:

  1. If your bristles are bending it might be time for a new toothbrush.
  2. Consider buying a UV toothbrush cleaner.
  3. Keep your toothbrush in a cup of water with 3% Hydrogen Peroxide. Change daily!
  4. Stir your toothbrush in a cup of mouthwash for a minimum of 30 seconds. The alcohol present in the mouthwash solution will kill most of the bacteria.
  5. Keeping your toothbrush away from the toilet.
  6. If anyone in your home is sick, throw away that person’s toothbrush and any other that came into contact with it.
  7. Take a mug of boiling hot water and place your toothbrush in it for 30 minutes. Some brush’s bristles may melt, but most brands will not

Remember to clean your toothbrush and keep up with regular appointments at your local dentist. Keeping up with appointments is a crucial factor in keeping your oral health at its best. Help yourself and help your smile by remembering to brush and keeping that toothbrush clean.

    • the vibration does not boehtr me at all. The two biggest differences I noticed with the FlexCare are the significantly smaller handle size, which could be good if you have smaller hands and the somewhat larger brush head size, which I kind of like, because it seems to clean more areas faster. Of course the new ProResults brush head also means that I can’t use the same brush heads that I have already bought for my older brush, but I like the new head design and also the way that it just presses on instead of screwing on like the older heads did. As for all of the brushing modes and cleaning routines offered with this brush, I have not even boehtred with them, I like brushing my normal 2 minutes (30 seconds each quadrant) which is what the standard clean mode does, so that is what I use. The charger station is also nice because it can hold two extra brush heads so that up to 3 people can share the same space easily. It also has a travel charger which is just the main charger without the extra brush head spaces and also a cloth-like travel case. The battery life also claims to be longer than any of the previous versions, so taking this on longer trips without even worrying about the charger is more of a possibility. So, in conclusion, I never had any problems with my Elite series brush and I don’t expect to have any with the new FlexCare either. It also seems to work just as well if not better and I have had wonderful dentist check-ups for the past several years with no cavities and very little plaque despite the fact that I only brush once a day, so I’m pretty happy with the Sonicare brushes and plan to use them for a long time to come. If you are switching from a regular manual brush up to this it does have a little bit of a weird feeling at first, but other than that first week or so of getting used to it, I really have nothing negative to say about this product.Help other customers find the most helpful reviewsa0Was this review helpful to you?a0 | a0
